Construction Imaging: The Grand Avenue Bridge

Glenwood Springs Colorado has a new $125 million dollar bridge in town that spans I-70, two Union Pacific Railroad mainline tracks and the Colorado River. It replaced a nearly 5 decade old structure that was in need of repair.  It has an expanded four lanes of traffic as well as a neighboring foot bridge for pedestrians. Visionary Aerials went out to capture a little perspective of this new bridge.  The 120 megapixel panoramic image above is composed of 23 images in total.  The image includes downtown Glenwood Springs, the Grand Avenue Bridge and the historic Glenwood Hot Springs Pool.  The project is a 95 day effort, employing at peak times 120 workers and is a joint venture of Granite and RL Wadsworth.  The bridge project wrapped up Summer of 2018.

The bridge features a unique roundabout traffic flow with pedestrian access looped under the main four lane section.  There is also access to the Glenwood Springs Pool via an underpass.  The whole area seems to flow fluidly from the highway exit to the round about to the bridge and underpass.

The two new bridges span the Colorado River while the final touches of the construction project take place underneath.
